Safety, Protection and Legal

We applaud, endorse and support the increasingly strict rules around online competitions. These rules have come from both voluntary codes of conduct (‘self-regulation’) and government regulation. Both are important.

Strict vigilance protects us all, and keeps online competitions and prizes credible

Alas, there are many examples of Fake Competitions, which turn out to be outright scams, with non-existent or mis-represented Prizes. Often, their undeclared true purpose is to inflate social media stats, attempt to ‘game’ algorithms’ that rank their popularity, or gain followers through deception or outright lying.

Acting on our guiding principle of Radical Transparency, See Through News seeks to avoid any potential, or even worse, actual, unfairness, misrepresentation, or, even worse, illegality.

We understand that absence of intent to mislead is no legal defence for false advertising. Any advice you can offer, while not binding in any way, is most welcome.

Extra Glory to anyone, provided they did or didn’t enter the Competition, who explains why so many of these terms are of French origin without triggering any online accusation of racism/prejudice/Little Englanderism/bigotry/Brexitism.

Please note the same sanctions will also apply to even-numbered entrants, as well as anyone who enters the Competition, or doesn’t.

Overall Super Winner: There will also be a separate vote for an Overall Winner, for the strongest performance over all Categories.

Strong though the temptation is to provide an actual pair of overalls as the overall prize, See Through News is a not-for-profit social enterprise and literally has no money at the moment, so until we gain enough momentum to start asking for cash, we need to live on our wits, so this weak overalls gag is all we got.
